Returning from a recent trip to Sacramanto, Vicki and I decided to stop at Newcastle Produce. It’s located in a complex of old fruit-packing shed in the little town of Newcastle a few miles south of Auburn. We were hungry and getting out of the car we noticed a sign for La Fornaretta, an Italian restaurant offering “Authentic Sicilian.” We settled into a lovely lunch which started with homemade bread and an outstanding salad, which was followed by two steaming plates of pasta. Vicki had Penne with Sugo, a delicious classic Italian tomato sauce. I had what I think is the best spaghetti I’ve ever had, perfectly cooked, with a tangy Puttanseca sauce made with tomatos, olives, capers, and prosciutto—it was divine.
